After a dominant 4-1 win over Atalanta on Wednesday, sealing a 10-2 aggregate victory, Bayern Munich can now look forward to facing one of European football's heavyweights in the quarter-finals.
Their next opponents in Europe's premier club competition will be Real Madrid, who eliminated Manchester City with an impressive 5-1 aggregate win.
The first leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid on April 7, with the return fixture at the Allianz Arena in Munich scheduled for April 15.
Bayern will be looking for revenge after being eliminated 4-3 on aggregate by Real Madrid in their last meeting in the 2023/24 Champions League semi-finals.
In fact, Bayern haven't beaten Real Madrid in the Champions League since 2012. Back then, the two European giants also met at the semi-final stage, with each side winning 2-1 at home before Bayern ultimately advanced on penalties.
It has therefore been over a decade since Bayern last got the better of the Spanish record champions – and they're determined to change that.
"It's about time," Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said on the Bavarians' aim to win the quarter-finals ahead.
“I think it’s a worthy quarter-final. We’re looking forward to it," said the Bayern boss.
“We know what is coming. We know what a great and difficult challenge it is."
