The future of Joshua Kimmich has been a major topic of speculation in recent months as his contract at Bayern Munich is set to expire at the end of the season.

Given his potential free agency at the end of the season, Real Madrid had been credited with an interest in the 30-year-old midfielder, as a possible replacement for his compatriot Toni Kroos.

In fact, it was suggested that Kimmich’s representatives had offered the player to Los Blancos via intermediaries, only for the Spanish capital club to reject his services.

Kimmich set to renew with Bayern Munich

Amidst all the speculations about his future, Fabrizio Romano reports that Kimmich is now close to renewing his contract at Bayern Munich.

Negotiations with the 30-year-old midfielder are understood to be in the final stages, suggesting that the soap opera surrounding his future will finally come to an end.

As mentioned earlier, Real Madrid had already turned down a chance to sign Kimmich for free in the summer despite all the speculations.

The Merengues held no interest in the Bayern Munich star suggesting that the noise about a potential transfer was being drummed up by his agents to coax a better offer from the Bavarian giants.

With the renewal now set to be finalised, speculations about a summer move to Real Madrid can finally be put to rest for good.

The Spanish and European champions full focus is on reinforcing the right-back position with Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold being the preferred target.

Depending upon the situation at the end of the season, Real Madrid could also consider roping in a central defender and a left-back.
