With Hinrunde coming to an end on Friday, Bayern Munich chiefs will work on contract renewals of key players over the next couple of weeks. Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies are at the top of the priority list for contract renewals at Bayern.
Leroy Sane was also on this list 12 months ago. Bayern were very keen on extending his contract when he was thriving under Thomas Tuchel. However, the dip in form and injury problems have completely changed the picture around the long-term future of Sane in Munich.
Bayern chiefs are reportedly unsure about offering Sane a new deal since he has struggled to impress under Vincent Kompany. Moreover, Sane has blown hot and cold since arriving from Manchester City in 2020. He often goes on an incredible run of form for a couple of months and then struggles for consistency during the next ten months.
Sane ended 2024 strongly with a good performance against RB Leipzig on Friday. He played an important part in Musiala’s goal and eventually capped off a promising display with a goal in the second half. After playing well against RB Leipzig, Sane again reiterated his desire to stay in Munich while talking to Sky Sports.
On the back of the comments from Sane, Max Eberl has suggested that talks will take place with Sane during the winter transfer window. The German winger has previously admitted that there will be no talks with interested clubs in January. His primary focus is on improving on the pitch and signing a contract extension with Bayern.
Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Sane. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona reportedly tried to sign him in 2023, but he decided to stay in Munich. Even though he has blown hot and cold at Bayern, there will be significant interest in a player of his caliber if Rekordmeister decide against offering a new deal.
Along with showing consistency on the pitch, Sane will have to make financial compromises to get a new contract from Bayern. The German winger is already one of the top earners in the squad. Die Roten want him to sign a new deal on a lower salary. The Bavarian club will likely make up the difference in salary by adding performance-related bonuses.
If there is no significant news on a contract extension in the first half of Ruckrunde, Sane will most likely leave Munich in the summer.
