Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg meet at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, in a Bundesliga clash that sees the runaway league leaders host a Freiburg side seeking consistency.
The Bavarians sit six points clear at the top after a sensational unbeaten start to the campaign. Freiburg find themselves in mid-table after a mixed opening under Julian Schuster.
Bayern Munich will be without two key players for Saturday’s clash. Left-back Alphonso Davies continues his recovery from an ACL injury. Though head coach Vincent Kompany has hinted at a potential return before the winter break. Davies returned to team training on November 16, with Kompany stating in mid-October: “If he can play a few games in December, then everyone will have done a wonderful job”.
Star playmaker Jamal Musiala remains sidelined with an ankle and leg injury, with his return not expected until mid-January 2026. Despite these absences, Bayern’s attacking firepower remains formidable. Harry Kane leads the scoring charts with 13 goals in just 10 Bundesliga appearances this season, becoming the first player to score 11 goals in the opening six games of a Bundesliga season.
Luis Díaz, the summer signing from Liverpool, has made an immediate impact with six goals and four assists in 10 league appearances. The Colombian took just 15 seconds to score in Bayern’s 3-0 victory at Eintracht Frankfurt in October. Together, Kane and Díaz have been responsible for 54% of Bayern’s goals this season.
Serge Gnabry has reinvented himself in a central position behind Kane, filling the void left by Musiala’s absence, with four goals and three assists in nine games. On-loan Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen on November 1.
Freiburg will be without attacking midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh. The 28-year-old had already missed the entirety of last season with injury as well. Cyriaque Irie is also a doubt because of Malaria.
Forward Eren Dinkci has been training fully during the international break after recovering from a muscular injury and could be available for selection against Bayern. However, the forward has primarily been used as a substitute option this season.
Vincenzo Grifo remains Freiburg’s most potent attacking threat and top scorer with six goals in all competitions, including two direct free-kicks. The 32-year-old Italian international showcased his quality with a trademark curled free-kick in Freiburg’s 2-0 Europa League victory over FC Utrecht in October. Julian Schuster praised his side’s performance after that match, stating: “I’m very pleased that we didn’t concede and worked well defensively”.
Captain Christian Günter, who recently became the club’s record appearance maker with 442 games, forms Freiburg’s prolific left flank alongside Grifo. Twenty-year-old academy graduate Johan Manzambi has emerged as a bright prospect this season, initially deployed as a No.10 before dropping into a deeper midfield role.
Vincent Kompany’s side have enjoyed a spectacular unbeaten start to the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, winning nine of their 10 league fixtures and sitting six points clear at the top with a remarkable +29 goal difference. This represents Bayern’s second-best start to a Bundesliga campaign. The Bavarians have scored 35 goals after 10 games, with only the Bayern teams of 2021/22 and 2023/24 bettering this tally at the same stage with 38 goals
Julian Schuster’s Freiburg currently occupy 10th position with 13 points from 10 matches, having recorded three wins, four draws, and three defeats. Their goal difference of -1 (13 scored, 14 conceded) reflects a relatively balanced team. After five matches without a win in the league, Freiburg returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over St. Pauli in their most recent Bundesliga fixture.
