Bayern Munich take on Union Berlin on the road in Wednesday evening’s DFB-Pokal round of 16 clash, with both clubs aiming to book their spot in the quarter-finals.
The Bavarians have claimed victory in three of their past five outings across competitions, bouncing back from a Champions League loss to Arsenal with a solid 3-1 triumph against St. Pauli last weekend.
Vincent Kompany’s squad has shown sharp finishing up front, netting 14 times over those five fixtures—including a dominant 6-2 rout of Freiburg. In their last DFB-Pokal match, they eased to a 4-1 success over FC Köln. The German giants are determined not to suffer another surprise knockout after early exits in recent seasons. Bayern have not won this trophy since 2020.
Kompany’s team heads to Berlin buoyed by the 3-1 St. Pauli success, though star creator Jamal Musiala is still sidelined with a fibula break. Alphonso Davies is back in training after a back problem but is unlikely to feature from the outset. Konrad Laimer could again deputise in the left-back role.
Midfield brings positive updates, as Aleksandar Pavlovic is ready to return following recovery from an eye socket injury that hampered him throughout the autumn. New arrival Luis Diaz, with nine goals across all comps this term, should line up wide to back up leading marksman Harry Kane.
Possible Bayern Munich starting XI: Urbig; Bischof, Tah, Kim, Laimer; Pavlovic, Kimmich; Diaz, Karl, Guerreiro; Kane.
The match will kick off at 7:45pm BST on Wednesday, 3rd December.
