Dayot Upamecano (27) is currently in the shop window, and the Frenchman is not underselling himself.
Upamecano’s contract at Bayern Munich is up in the summer. The former RB Leipzig defender remains in talks over an extension at the Bavarian club, however, they are not the only interested party. Foot Mercato even understands that there is a verbal agreement in place to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer.
If he is to leave Bayern Munich, RMC Sport understands that Paris Saint-Germain, a long-term admirer of Upamecano, will make a move.
He, therefore, isn’t short of suitors. It is the result of several months of consistent performances for club and country. The pillar of a defence, currently considered to be the best in Europe, he isn’t lacking in confidence either.
“I think that I’m one of the best [in the world],” began Upamecano in a press conference ahead of France’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Thursday. He also gave a nod to his teammates. “But there are also some very good defenders, like William Saliba and Ibrahima Konaté, so I think that, above all, I am surrounded by the best both with France and at Bayern Munich,” he said.
