It was quite the night at the Allianz Arena, as Bayern Munich broke the Champions League era (post-1992) record for most goals in one game with their stunning 9-2 victory against Dinamo Zagreb.

In Vincent Kompany’s first game in the competition, the German giants ran riot against the Croatian champions, racing into a three-goal lead before being pegged back to 3-2 early into the second half.

His hat-trick of penalties was also the first time a player had done so in the competition, and he was the fourth Bayern player to score four goals in one Champions League game.

The previous record for goals scored by a team in the post-1992 era was held by Monaco (8-3 win against Deportivo in 2003/2004), Borussia Dortmund (8-4 over Legia Warsaw in 2016/17) and Bayern themselves (8-2 over Barcelona in 2019/20).

A good omen for Kompany, Kane and co.?
