Bayern Munich are preparing to hand a debut to 16-year-old goalkeeper Leonard Prescott in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 return against Atalanta, amid a goalkeeping injury crisis. According to Football Italia, every other option in Vincent Kompany’s squad is injured or at significant risk of missing out.

Bayern carry a 6-1 lead from last Tuesday’s first leg in Bergamo. Atalanta need a six-goal victory at the Allianz Arena to reach the quarter-finals. La Dea are the only Italian side still in the competition after Inter and Juventus exited in the play-off round, and Napoli at the end of the league phase.

Captain Manuel Neuer, absent in the first leg, remains sidelined. Back-up Sven Ulreich has an adductor tear. Jonas Urbig, who started last week, is a major doubt with concussion.

Bayern II are also without 19-year-old Leon Klanac due to a thigh injury, leaving Prescott, currently with the U19s, as the most likely to start on Wednesday.

Prescott was born in New York and has represented Germany at U16 and U17 level. He has made 16 appearances for Bayern’s U19s this season, conceding 30 goals, and has twice been named in the senior matchday squad, against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend and Atalanta last Tuesday.
