Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck.
According to Sky Germany, the Bavarians have “strong” interest in the centre-back, whom they were already tracking in 2022 when he moved from Freiburg to Dortmund.
Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg claims that if an opportunity arises to sign Schlotterbeck in 2026, “Bayern will be there.”
Germany and Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus believes his former club would be wise to pursue the German international, seeing him as a potential replacement for Dayot Upamecano.
The French defender’s contract expires at the end of the season, and it is unclear whether Bayern will be able to agree a new deal with him.
“[Schlotterbeck] is a German international, knows the Bundesliga, is highly trained, and has international quality. To me, it would make perfect sense if Upamecano leaves or if a contract extension cannot be agreed upon,” Matthäus wrote in a column for Sky.
Whether a move is possible largely depends on whether Schlotterbeck decides to extend his contract with Dortmund.
BVB are reportedly eager to extend his current deal, which runs until 2027, through to 2030, but the player has not made a final decision yet.
Should he ultimately turn down a new contract, the summer 2026 transfer window would be Dortmund’s last chance to secure an attractive fee for him.
