Jonas Urbig had to be substituted shortly before the end of FC Bayern’s 6-1 win over Atalanta Bergamo due to injury. The Bayern keeper is now in hospital
After a hard collision in his own penalty area, Jonas Urbig had to leave the pitch, visibly dazed and supported by his supporters. As the young Bayern keeper dived to intercept a cross, Atalanta striker Nikola Krstovic crashed into his head with his shin. Urbig remained lying down and the match was not restarted
There was initially no precise diagnosis after the final whistle, with sporting director Max Eberl simply explaining: „I don’t know exactly what happened to Jonas, he was just a bit woozy and had a headache.“
It is now clear: Urbig has been admitted to hospital. As presenter Lena Cassel announced on prime , the 22-year-old was admitted with visual problems. Expert Patrick Owomoyela suspected a concussion as the cause of these visual problems
In a prime interview after the game, coach Vincent Kompany initially wanted to keep a low profile regarding the injuries to Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies
The Bayern coach thought the three injuries were „a shame, but I also told the boys: I have full confidence in our squad, that’s how we got here and hopefully that’s how we’ll get to the end.“
He did not comment on Urbig at all, but gave minor updates on Musiala and Davies. As for the Canadian’s state of health, Kompany announced: „It won’t be too bad for Phonzy. We’re without him for a few games now, but we have to manage that.“ The Bayern coach also gave the all-clear for Musiala: „His body language was positive after the game. I don’t think it’s that bad.“
