Bitter news for Bayern – especially for Joshua Kimmich. The 30-year-old was injured during training with the German national team and will be out of action for the time being.
FC Bayern had been almost completely spared from injury misfortune in recent weeks. Apart from the long-term absences of Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito and Jamal Musiala, Vincent Kompany had a full squad to choose from. But now, during the international break of all times, one of the team’s key players has been hit: Joshua Kimmich.
As the German Football Association announced on Thursday, the midfield boss suffered a capsular injury to his right ankle yesterday (Wednesday). As a result, the DFB captain was unable to take part in the final training session in Wolfsburg and will miss Friday’s World Cup qualifier in Luxembourg. However, he will still travel with the team.

At least there is cautious optimism: according to the DFB, it is not a serious injury. Kimmich should be able to return to training after a few days‘ rest and be back in time for Monday’s decisive World Cup qualifier against Slovakia in Leipzig. Currently, officials do not expect the 30-year-old to miss that game.
Kimmich himself spoke out via Instagram, saying: ‘Unfortunately, this is my workplace at the moment. I’m doing my best to be back on the pitch on Monday.’
Julian Nagelsmann will announce further details about the injury and the planned load management for the Bayern star at a press conference in the early evening.
From FC Bayern’s point of view, too, it is to be hoped that the initial diagnosis is confirmed. Under Kompany, Kimmich is an absolute fixture in central midfield and an enormously important playmaker. A prolonged absence would be a bitter setback for Munich, especially with the decisive phase of the season approaching at the end of the year.
For the moment, however, everything indicates that Kimmich will be available to Bayern and the national team again in a few days.
