The Champions League evening ended in disappointment for FC Bayern in sporting terms, but the semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain turned into an absolute mega-event in business and media terms, with streaming provider DAZN recording new record figures for the 1-1 draw in the Allianz Arena

The semi-final second leg between FC Bayern and PSG electrified soccer fans across Germany. After the spectacular 4:5 in the first leg, millions of viewers wanted to know whether Munich would still make it to the final

The match was a historic success for DAZN, as the streaming service announced on Thursday, citing internal data, that almost 2.3 million viewers in Germany watched the match live

The clash between Bayern and Paris thus set a new record for the platform, as Munich’s quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid had already clearly surpassed the two million viewer mark

The enormous reach once again demonstrates the appeal of FC Bayern, particularly in the Champions League, with the spectacular performances of Vincent Kompany’s team attracting enormous attention across Europe in recent weeks

It is therefore hardly surprising that the semi-final against PSG once again attracted millions of fans in front of their screens. The first leg at the Parc des Princes had already caused a worldwide sensation

Prime Video also benefited from the Bayern hype

Not only DAZN benefited from the huge interest in the Champions League clash between FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain, but Prime Video also celebrated a historic success with the spectacular first leg

According to reports, more than five million households watched the wild 5:4 for PSG on Amazon’s platform – more than ever before for a sporting event on the streaming provider

If you extrapolate the average number of viewers per household, more than eight million fans are said to have watched live

This means that both of FC Bayern’s semi-final matches were among the most-watched soccer broadcasts of the entire season. Particularly noteworthy: both matches were shown exclusively on streaming and not on traditional free TV

Although the semi-final exit against PSG remains bitter for FC Bayern itself in sporting terms, the enormous viewer interest once again shows how important the Munich team continues to be both nationally and internationally

The spectacular Champions League evenings against Real Madrid and PSG in particular made FC Bayern one of the biggest crowd pullers in Europe this season.
