Manchester United have been granted a timely financial boost in the lead-up to the summer transfer window.
Indeed, the Red Devils stand to receive a ‘six-figure sum’ following confirmation of Burnley’s return to the top flight due to a clause inserted into Hannibal Mejbri’s transfer to Turf Moor last August.
The Tunisian international joined Burnley ahead of the 2024/2025 campaign in hopes of playing a more prominent role than he had with United, having featured sparingly under Erik ten Hag.
He also left England to join Sevilla on loan last January but proceeded to ensure a torrid spell, in which he made just six La Liga appearances whilst being an unused substitute for 11 matches. What’s worse, Hannibal started only once and played a total of 101 minutes for the Spanish outfit.

Burnley ignited their pursuit of the Carrington graduate, who joined United’s academy from Monaco in 2019, after being relegated from the Premier League upon the culmination of 2022/2023. The sides agreed an initial fee of £5.4 million, potentially rising to £9.4m later down the line. He earned 13 senior appearances for the Reds prior to his exit.
Now, the 22-year-old has enjoyed a stellar eight months with the Clarets, with last night’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United securing their spot in the top division next season – also assuring INEOS acquire a much-welcome cash injection.
Hannibal started 21 times and featured in another 14 Championship clashes off the bench to aid Burnley’s promotion charge, and they did it in some fashion; Scott Parker’s men have conceded only 15 goals in 44 matches, kept 29 clean sheets, are unbeaten in their last 31 outings and have not conceded more than one goal in any game.
