Manchester United will have £250 million to spend on new signings this summer, after selling Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli.
The Danish striker cost the Red Devils £64 million when they bought him from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. After finding mild success in his first season at Old Trafford, Hojlund endured a miserable 2024/25 season, only scoring four league goals.

Despite his struggles under Ruben Amorim, the 23-year-old still had a market in Serie A, and he eventually signed for Napoli on loan with an obligation to buy.
After qualifying for the Champions League, Napoli were obliged to buy Hojlund from Man Utd. Nevertheless, the Partenopei’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, had expressed the desire to purchase the centre-forward regardless of the obligation, as the latter had cemented himself as a key player at the club, especially with Romelu Lukaku mysteriously vanishing from the scene.
As highlighted by the BBC journalist Simon Stone, Man Utd’s latest quarterly financial statement revealed a £31.36 million generated from player sales. While the note didn’t disclose any names, it obviously refers to Hojlund’s transfer to Napoli.

The reported fee was said to be €50 million, or roughly £39 million, but that figure included loan fees paid last summer in addition to bonuses.
More importantly, Stone believes United will now have around £250 million to spend on new signings this season, having paid off £110 million in revolving credit facility.
This transfer kit is more or less the same as last summer, when INEOS revamped their attack by recruiting Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, while solving their goalkeeping woes by signing Senne Lammens.
This summer, United have a major overhaul in the middle of the park. If they sell Manuel Ugarte, they could well buy three new midfielders.
Atalanta’s Ederson should soon become the first buy, costing the club a figure around £30 million. However, INEOS are expected to make at least one marquee signing.
Elliot Anderson remains their top target, but if they were to meet Nottingham Forest’s £120 million asking price, they would have to resort to cost-effective profiles to fill the remaining holes, including a third midfielder, a new left-back, and potentially an attacker.
