Arsenal go into the Women’s Champions League as defending champions

BBC Sport has signed a five-year deal to bring the Women’s Champions League to free-to-air TV until 2030.

The broadcaster confirmed the news on Wednesday, and will show Women’s Champions League matches in the United Kingdom this season alongside streaming platform Disney+.

It comes just days before the start of the new League Phase of the Women’s Champions League which features 18 teams, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

How many Champions League games will the BBC show?

In the announcement from the BBC, it was announced that the broadcaster will show seven live matches, including the final, during the 2025-26 season.

Manchester United’s match with Paris Saint-Germain on November 12th will be the BBC’s first game.

The fixture on Matchday 3, is notable as it will be the first Women’s Champions League game to be played at Old Trafford.

Chelsea’s meeting with Barcelona the following week on November 20th will also be shown on the BBC.

The BBC will also show both legs of one semi-final and another two matches from earlier in the competition.

Highlights from other games will be on the BBC website, while Radio 5 Live will also do commentary for the biggest games.

BBC Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski said: “This is a great moment for women’s football and for BBC Sport.

“Bringing the Uefa Women’s Champions League to a free-to-air audience is huge.”

How many games will Disney+ show?

Streaming platform Disney+ previously revealed that it will broadcast all 75 matches of the Women’s Champions League.

It was also revealed on Tuesday that former England internationals Alex Scott and Fara Williams would be part of their broadcast team.

Other notable names include Ellen White, Vicky Losada and Karen Bardsley among more.

Similar to BBC, Disney+ will show Women’s Champions League matches for the next five years.

DAZN had shown Champions League matches to European audiences over the past four seasons, with TNT broadcasting some matches in the UK.

When does the League Phase of the Champions League get underway?

BBC will not show any games next week when the Women’s Champions League gets back underway with the League Phase.

One of the biggest games of the opening week is defending champions Arsenal facing Lyon, while last season’s beaten finalists Barcelona take on Bayern Munich.

Manchester United host Norwegian side Valerenga while Chelsea open their campaign away at Twente.

The final for this year’s competition will be held at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo in May.
