Bayern star Luis Díaz was sent off with a yellow-red card for an alleged foul against Leverkusen on Saturday. The record champions have now lodged an appeal
As Sky reporter Kerry Haue announced on X , FC Bayern lodged an appeal against Luis Díaz’s suspension with the DFB sports court on Sunday. The club confirmed the information when asked by the pay-TV broadcaster
Díaz was shown a second yellow card against Bayer Leverkusen yesterday (Saturday) after stumbling and falling in a duel with Leverkusen keeper Jannis Blaswich. Referee Christian Dingert judged the situation to be a foul by Díaz and consequently sent him off
After the game, however, the referee admitted that he had made a wrong decision in this case. „It looked to me as if the player took off. I didn’t see the subsequent contact from the game. In the end, it’s not a penalty because contact was sought beforehand. However, looking at the pictures now, the yellow card is very harsh. I wouldn’t give it now with the pictures,“ he explained
This is the second time this season that FC Bayern have appealed against Díaz’s suspension. Díaz was already banned after his red card against Paris Saint-Germain, when he was shown a straight red for a tackle in midfield and had to sit out three Champions League games
A punishment that seemed too harsh for the record champions at the time, but UEFA eventually realized that the decision was disproportionate and reduced the punishment. Instead of three games, Díaz only had to sit out two
If Munich’s persuasive efforts bear fruit again this time, Díaz could be back on the pitch next weekend against Union Berlin. In view of Dingert’s statement in particular, the chances are not bad in any case.
