A Beeston pub has become a matchday magnet for Leeds United fans, its matchdays steeped in colour, song and routine.

According to Leeds Live, Whistlestop on Town Street is a short walk from the club’s home ground and fills before home games, drawing visitors from abroad alongside a core group of regulars.

A huge car park mural marks Dominic Matteo’s 2000 Champions League header against AC Milan, the 1-1 group-stage draw that helped set up a semi-final with Valencia.

Landlady Amanda West, 53, has run the pub since 2021 and says she loves matchdays, and she cannot wait for the new season. Leeds’ Premier League campaign is due to start at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on Saturday, August 22.

She calls Leeds a way of life for many. Home fixtures are the busiest, with doors open at 10am and the bar filling by 12pm, the noise building until shortly before kick-off. A pre-match playlist includes Marching on Together, Rocking All Over the World and Agadoo.

Supporters’ clubs are regulars, including a group that flies from Ireland for every home match, arriving on Fridays, in from 10am, and heading back on Sundays.

When the game kicks off the bar quietens and staff start the clear-up, but a Leeds goal brings an eruption heard across the pub. Even when the team are at home in the stadium, the roar carries to the pub. Away days are still busy, though nowhere near home crowds.
