Manchester City may be about to brace themselves for an intense battle for one of the club’s most highly-rated attacking talents, a new report has indicated.
The Premier League champions have become well-known within the English game for producing some of the finest young talents in the top-flight division, often selling on their starlets for fine amounts.
In recent seasons, the most obvious example that fits that particular bill was Manchester City’s sale of Cole Palmer to Chelsea after the Stamford Bridge club sanctioned a £42.5 million investment in the now-England star.
Other notable sales from the Etihad Stadium’s production line of fine talents include Jadon Sancho and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to Borussia Dortmund, Carlos Forbs to Ajax, and James Trafford to Burnley.
But after a stellar season so far for the club across various competitions, Manchester City could be on the verge of attracting mass interest from some of Europe’s very best clubs for a new name emerging in their academy system.
According to a new report from the Manchester Evening News’ Joe Bray, scouts present at Manchester City Academy’s recent 0-6 win over West Brom in the FA Youth Cup began leaving the contest after 75 minutes.
It is no coincidence that on 75 minutes, City had opted to withdraw their highly-rated Academy talent Divine Mukasa from the contest, with the teenager disappointed in his substitution, having only provided two assists in the game.
The 17-year-old left-footed midfielder has recorded a staggering number of goal contributions across age ranges for Manchester City’s youth squads, making him one of the most productive names in the academy in recent years.
In the Under-18 Premier League alone, Mukasa has produced an outstanding 13 goals and 14 assists in just 16 appearances, while that is also added to one goal and six assists in the FA Youth Cup en route to the semi-final stage at present.
Across all competitions, Divine Mukasa’s performances have produced 14 goals and 24 assists in 31 appearances, attracting interest from the likes of Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and Dutch giants, Ajax.
