FC Bayern are currently leaving no doubt about their ambitions in the Bundesliga. After the 5-1 win in Leipzig, Harry Kane spoke about a formative conversation with coach Vincent Kompany and the mentality that drives the record champions.

The second half in Leipzig was emblematic of FC Bayern’s current dominance. Despite trailing at the break, the team turned the game around and took their opponents apart almost at will. After the game, Harry Kane spoke about the background to this self-image and recalled his first telephone conversation with Vincent Kompany, which took place shortly after he took up his post in July 2024.

„I remember my first phone call with the coach when he took over at Bayern. Even then, he told me that we would be merciless with all opponents,“ said the striker. The exchange was formative and is reflected on the pitch today: „That’s the mentality that the coach brought here. He said from the very first moment: If we’re one goal up, we’ll go for the second. And if we’re three up, we’ll go for the fourth.“

Kane emphasized that this ambition starts every day in training. That’s where the competition arises that pays off in the games. „That’s already evident in the way we train. There’s a real competition there – and we bring that onto the pitch in the games.“

The last few games provide the appropriate evidence. The 8:1 win against Wolfsburg was followed by the 5:1 victory in Leipzig, which was the expression of a clear plan, especially in the second half. The Munich team ran six kilometers more than their opponents after the break. Kompany spoke afterwards of „pure old school“ and emphasised their willingness to run and their hardness in tackles.

Munich will be looking to demonstrate their mentality again on Wednesday evening (9pm) when they face Union Saint-Gilloise in the top flight.
