One side remains unbeaten and one side remains without a win in the Belgian Pro League as nine matches are now in the books. After another great week in Europe, Genk also look to be back on track thanks to their South Korean striker.

Friday’s action: All square in Leuven

Struggling OH Leuven battled to a 1-1 draw at home to Anderlecht on Friday night. The side looked more of a threat upfront as they registered 17 shots in the game to Anderlecht’s 10. However, Luis Vasquez grabbed the opening goal early in the second half as Nilson Angulo grabbed another assist for the season. David Hubert rang the changes late on and Youssef Maziz struck in the 80th minute to send a message to the boss. The performance and result may well give Hubert and OH Leuven something to build on now.

Saturday’s action: Club leave it late and Union remain unbeaten

Zulte Waregem continued their decent run of form with a 2-0 home win over a struggling Antwerp. Jeppe Erenbjerg was the star of the show as he grabbed a goal and an assist to give the newly promoted side another win to make it three in a row. Antwerp are now winless in four, with only one goal in that time as well.

Club Brugge left it late to beat 10-man Standard Liege on Saturday evening. Rafiki Said grabbed a fantastic first goal for the home side which was cancelled out just minutes later by Christos Tzolis. Marlon Fossey was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge in the second half. Nicolo Tresoldi was replaced by Romeo Vermant in the second half, and the young Belgian took his chance in the 91st minute to give Club Brugge an important three points.

Those three points were important given that Union St Gilloise remained unbeaten to start the season with a 2-0 win over Westerlo. It took them until the second half to take the lead, with Promise David breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark. Marc Giger then came off the bench to make it 2-0 and another victory for Union.

Sunday’s action: Oh saves Genk, Gent finally up and running?

After helping Genk overcome Rangers midweek, South Korean striker Hyun-Gyu Oh was at it again in the 95th minute during the Limburg derby. Genk captain Bryan Heynen had gifted Sint Truiden the lead with an own goal before Junya Ito made it two goals in two league games to draw Genk level. Prior to that Rein Van Helden had been sent off, but Genk were only able to punish them deep into added time.

Gent and Cercle Brugge shared six goals at the Jan Breydel on Sunday afternoon. Michal Skoras continued his fine start to his Gent career scoring early, before Cercle took th elead thanks to Steve Ngoura from the spot and Edgarus Utkus just before half-time. However, Cercle could not see it through to half-time with Atsuki Ito drawing the Buffaloes level with another Skoras assist. The Polish winger grabbed another assist for Omri Gandelman in the second half before Franck Surdez made the game safe late on as Gent won 4-2.

KV Mechelen made it just one defeat in their last five as they beat Charleroi 2-0 away from home. Goals from Myron van Brederode and Lion Lauberbach were enough late in the first half for all three points. German striker Lauberbach has struggled for two seasons so far since joining KV Mechelen in 2023 but this season he has grabbed four goals in just nine games and looks set to surpass the eight he scored last season.

Dender remain without a win after a 0-0 draw at home to RAAL La Louviere. Both defences cancelled each other out as Dender finished with 0.61xG on 10 shots, while RAAL also had 10 shots and an xG of 0.64. That means that RAAL goalkeeper Marcos Peano has kept four clean sheets from nine games so far this season, an impressive start to the 26-year-old’s Belgian Pro League career.
