Belgium part ways with manager Rudi Garcia after World Cup campaign | OneFootball

Rudi Garcia will not continue as Belgium manager following the team’s World Cup 2026 campaign. 

Garcia was appointed in February 2025 on a deal until the end of July 2026. 

The 62-year-old led Belgium to the World Cup quarter-finals, but the Belgian Football Association has confirmed he will leave his role. 

The Red Devils were fancied to go deep into the summer tournament given the quality of players in their squad.

They made an underwhelming start to the World Cup, drawing with Egypt and Iran in their opening two matches. 

They still reached the knockout stage as group winners after an emphatic 5-1 triumph over New Zealand. 

Garcia’s men then staged a remarkable comeback victory against Senegal in the round of 32. They came from two goals down in the 86th minute to knock the African giants out of the competition. 

Belgium claimed a stunning 4-1 victory against the United States, with the game’s build-up dominated by FIFA’s decision to suspend Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban. 

The Red Devils’ World Cup journey finally ended in the quarter-finals, with eventual winners Spain defeating them 2-1. 

Garcia came under fire for replacing injured first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois against Spain. 

Courtois suggested he could continue despite the injury, but the French boss defended his decision by saying he didn’t want players who were not 100 percent fit.
