Belgium’s football federation will not support Gianni Infantino’s bid for another term as FIFA president.
In a statement on Monday, the RBFA said it will not vote for him. It cited a lack of transparency and governance shortcomings, and raised unresolved questions over Folarin Balogun’s World Cup red card in the United States.
Infantino confirmed on Sunday that he will seek re-election in March 2027. He is currently the only declared candidate.
Belgium joins Sweden, Scotland and Italy in withdrawing support. Aligned with UEFA, the RBFA wants clear answers on the decision-making behind the shelved plan to place World Cup revenues in a company open to private investors.
Balogun was sent off in the last 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina. His suspension for the last 16 tie against Belgium was lifted after US president Donald Trump intervened with Infantino.
Two months on, RBFA president Pascale Van Damme has asked FIFA to put the Balogun case on the agenda for the FIFA Council meeting on 15 October.
