Bellingham, also given 8, was wasteful early with turnovers on 23 and 28, then scored on 36 and 38 against the run. He produced a crucial defensive intervention on Cesar Montes at 45+2 and grafted after the interval.

Lira, marked 7, shrugged off a kick from Rice on 10 and smothered Bellingham for half an hour. He shot off target on 32 and arrived late as the second went in on 38. Jimenez, also 7, was denied before the break, scored from the spot on 69, then saw a bicycle blocked on 90+7 and shot wide on 90+8.

Quansah, rated 2, toiled at right-back and was sent off on 54 for a reckless tackle on Jesus Gallardo. Konsa, a 5, deflected to Julian Quinones for Mexico’s first on 42, then conceded a dangerous free-kick on 85.

J. Sanchez, a 3, struggled with Gordon’s pace, was booked on 71 and withdrawn for Fidalgo on 79. Mora, 4 and the tournament’s youngest at 17, lost the ball before England’s second on 38 and went off on 61. His replacement S. Gimenez saw an overhead blocked on 77, volleyed wide on 82, then injured his right ankle after a Spence tackle on 90+10.
