Ben Foster has poured praise on Manchester United summer signing Matheus Cunha.

The former goalkeeper’s comments came just before United’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night, which saw Cunha oversee a tremendous display on his first return to Molineux following his exit in June.

While the Brazilian was unable to get on the scoresheet, he recorded his first assist for United when selflessly setting up skipper Bruno Fernandes, when he very easily could’ve netted the opener – and his second goal – when one-on-one with Sam Johnstone.

Yet, it was Cunha’s performance against West Ham that had Foster completely wowed by what he’d seen.

“Cunha is a player, by the way,” said Foster on his show, the Fozcast.

“Honestly, I went to West Ham the other night. Honestly, he is unreal, by the way. He just looks like he’s getting even better.”

Ruben Amorim will certainly be intrigued by the latter claim, as he’ll need the 26-year-old to really step up to the mark in Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo’s absences when the African Cup of Nations gets underway later this month.

It’s expected Benjamin Sesko will be back at the coach’s disposal by the time United’s internationals depart, but Cunha, who boasts three-and-a-half seasons worth of Premier League experience over the young Slovenian, will likely occupy the main focal point of United’s attack.

That being said, Sesko has scored once more than his senior counterpart in one less appearance.

Next up for the Reds is a visit from an out-of-form Bournemouth side in yet another Monday evening slot next week, followed by a trip to Villa Park on Sunday, December 21.
