The Blues face a critical summer under new boss Xabi Alonso with reinforcements required in a number of key areas of the squad.

Chelsea are said to be in the market for a centre back, whilst it’s thought they want to add another midfielder and attacker to their ranks.

Alonso will reportedly have a say in transfers, and co-owner Behdad Eghbali has said the recruitment model will be tweaked this summer.

There’s reportedly an acceptance within Chelsea that the club need to target proven Premier League ready players.

Chelsea have been linked with Rogers, who would fit that bill, but according to Ben Jacobs they trail Arsenal in the race for the England international.

“This isn’t about Rogers pushing for a move away, he loves Unai Emery and Villa have Champions League football but they still have some financial hurdles to jump over even with that extra money,” he told Give Me Sport.

“Offers in excess of £80million will be engaged with. Interested clubs feel around £80million whereas Villa sources I speak to feel like they get in a room at £80million, but maybe £90million and even £100million might be the number because we’re in an inflated market.

“Four teams in particular are active. Arsenal are one serious contender, they want a starting left-winger. Chelsea are looking for a creative-minded attacker. Man Utd and Rogers may develop and PSG might be a bit of a dark horse as well.”
