Chelsea’s summer clear-out is going well – but there are still a few big ticket items on the shelves.
Chief among them is Nicolas Jackson. The striker has been our first choice 9 for two years, but has since been displaced by the arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
While the club still like Jackson and rate him, this has created a perfect chance to sell him for a profit. So far, the Blues have maintained they would only consider a permanent deal. But – perhaps thanks to getting so much other business done successfully – they’re now open to considering a loan.
Ben Jacobs’ Tweet about Nicolas Jackson’s loan fee.
Fabrizio Romano reported as such earlier today, and now Ben Jacobs has jumped in with a little extra detail, as is his wont.
He claims that the Blues are “prepared to sanction a loan with obligation for Nico Jackson if a permanent transfer can’t be agreed.”
We don’t know what they would want as the final fee for the move – although we hear that they think he’s worth at least as much as the £79m that Liverpool paid for Hugo Ekitike. What we do know from Jacobs is that the Blues would ask £10m for the loan fee for the year. That’s not a crazy sum – Renato Veiga cost Juventus €5m for their 6 month rental last year.
To us, this move could really still go in any direction. Would anyone be surprised if no good offers come in and Jackson sticks around for another year? Equally, opening things up to loans certainly increases the chances of him leaving.
Sale loan or stay – they’re all still on the cards.
