Benfica have been handed a boost in the international break, with captain Nicolás Otamendi recovered from injury and back on the pitch on 28 March.

Record writes that the defender and Giianluca Prestianni, left out of Argentina’s 2-1 friendly win over Mauritania, started a training match against the under-20s.

The senior side won 1-0, with Flaco López on target. The Palmeiras forward, coached by Abel Ferreira, is pushing to secure a World Cup call-up.

The key takeaway was Otamendi’s run-out. The 38-year-old had not featured since the Clássico against Porto on 8 March and his Benfica renewal may fall through.

His return is a timely lift for José Mourinho before the visit to Casa Pia. This season he has made 43 appearances for Benfica, 24 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça, totalling 3,809 minutes and three goals.
