According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica intend to push ahead with renewing futsal captain Afonso Jesus, with the club keen to settle the matter soon as the 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of this season.

The defender joined Benfica in 2016/17 after spells at Marista Lisboa and Sporting, where he spent six years in the academy and made seven senior appearances.

Since 2020/21 he has been an undisputed starter and has made 276 appearances for the club to date.

Across recent campaigns he has underlined his leadership and influence, becoming one of the squad’s most respected figures in the sport.

In 10 seasons with Benfica, Jesus has scored 77 goals and won one Supertaça, one Taça de Portugal, four Taças da Liga and two Campeonato Nacional titles.
