Benfica confirm Gustavo Varela’s permanent move to Monza | OneFootball

Benfica have confirmed the permanent departure of Gustavo Varela to Monza, with the 21-year-old forward signing until June 2030.

The club announced the move on Monday via its official channels. Monza are back in Serie A this year, and it is Varela’s first move to Italy.

No financial terms were disclosed, but reports in Italy have put the fee at two million euros. The agreement also includes performance-related add-ons worth up to one and a half million euros.

Benfica retain a 20% sell-on clause and a buy-back option, with the repurchase figure yet to be specified.

A Portugal youth international, Varela made his senior Benfica debut on 17 May 2024, coming on at 75 minutes away to Rio Ave. Loaned to Gil Vicente in the summer of 2025, he played 32 matches and scored seven goals as the club finished sixth in the Portuguese league.
