According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica have ended their pursuit of Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo, despite Marco Silva viewing him as a defensive addition.
The total cost to sign the England international, together with his salary, was judged too heavy for the club’s finances, so the board led by Rui Costa chose not to proceed.
Adarabioyo had been on Benfica’s radar at Silva’s suggestion, with the coach familiar with the defender from their time together at Fulham.
Financial considerations took precedence, with Chelsea’s terms to release the player and the defender’s wages exceeding limits set in the squad plan.
Marseille have also shown interest, adding further competition. As it stands, Adarabioyo is no longer an option for Benfica in this window.
