32 players who featured in Liga Portugal this season have been called up for the 2026 World Cup, with Benfica supplying the most, yet Roberto Martínez’s Portugal rank only second among the represented nations.
As reported by Glorioso 1904, the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada will showcase talent that played in Portugal, underscoring the league’s growing profile. In total, 15 national teams have selected players from the division.
Portugal’s contingent includes Diogo Costa, Gonçalo Inácio, Tomás Araújo and Francisco Trincão, all of whom appeared domestically this term.
Across clubs, 13 Portuguese sides are represented, with Benfica leading and Sporting close behind. There are also call-ups arriving straight from Liga 2.
Notable names linked to Portuguese football include Andreas Schjelderup and Fredrik Aursnes with Norway and Richard Ríos with Colombia. Argentina’s captain Nicolás Otamendi, who featured for Benfica last season, is also heading to the finals.
