Benfica learn Europa League opponents as draw sets up Milan reunion with Ruben Amorim

Benfica have learned their Europa League opponents after the draw at UEFA headquarters. According to Glorioso 1904, Marco Silva’s side will host AZ Alkmaar, Celtic, Lech Poznan and OFI Crete, and travel to Milan, Viktoria Plzen, Omonia and NEC, with the Milan tie a reunion with Ruben Amorim.
Benfica came through three qualifying rounds to reach the main phase. In the second qualifying round they faced St. Gallen, losing 2-1 in Switzerland before responding with a 5-0 win at the Luz to advance.
In the next round they met Hearts, winning the first leg 6-1 at home thanks to a standout display from Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored a hat-trick. In Edinburgh, Marco Silva rotated to give opportunities across the squad and it finished 1-1.
The play-off brought Aarhus of Denmark, and Benfica won both ties 3-1, at home and away, with Prestianni and Rafa Silva to the fore, sealing progression to the competition’s main stage.
The 2026/27 Europa League final will be staged at Stadion Frankfurt in Germany on 26 May 2027. Opened in 1925, the venue has been modernised and recently hosted five UEFA EURO 2024 matches, along with games at the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup.
