Benfica already know two clubs they cannot be paired with in the Europa League second qualifying round after Tuesday’s initial draw.

According to Glorioso 1904, the first qualifying round draw confirmed that, even if they advance, Vojvodina of Serbia and Vestri of Iceland cannot meet Benfica in the next stage.

The pool of possible opponents is now narrower ahead of next Wednesday’s decisive draw. Benfica will enter directly in the second qualifying round as a seeded side, but testing assignments remain possible.

Potential opponents include Twente, Besiktas, Dínamo Kiev and Hajduk Split. Other candidates named are Tromso, St. Gallen, Hammarby, Universitatea Cluj, Zilina, Aluminij, CSKA Sofia, Derry City and Sheriff.

The European campaign carries added weight at the Luz, with Benfica aiming to reach the main phase of the Europa League and avoid any early setback as the new season takes shape.
