FC Barcelona suffered a huge loss last night as their first-team doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia, passed away while at the team hotel before the game against Osasuna.

The sudden tragic loss led to the Blaugrana’s La Liga match against Osasuna getting postponed, with the dressing room left devastated by Dr Carles Minarro’s passing.

Barcelona will next be in action on Tuesday when they take on SL Benfica in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg fixture at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

And Bruno Lage, the manager of Benfica, opened his post-match press conference following his team’s victory over Nacional in the Portuguese league with a heartfelt message to FC Barcelona.

“My deepest condolences to Barcelona,” said Lage, acknowledging the sudden passing of Dr Carles Minarro.

With just 48 hours remaining until their Champions League clash in Montjuic, Lage took a moment to express his support for his European rivals during this difficult time.

Despite the emotional context, the Benfica coach also addressed the upcoming match in Barcelona, where his side will need to overturn a 0-1 deficit.

“Given what we have done in these last four matches, with the attacking intensity and chances we have created, we must believe that we are going to Barcelona to win, to play our game, and to turn the tie around,” Lage stated.

Barcelona beat Benfica in the first leg at Estadio da Luz earlier this week, thanks to a goal from Raphinha.

If they manage to get through to the quarter-finals, the Blaugrana will face one of Borussia Dortmund or Lille.
