River Plate have revived their pursuit of Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni after an initial winter move that the Portuguese club did not entertain. His rise in recent months has sharpened interest.
The player is admired by head coach Eduardo Coudet, who is said to have asked club president Stefano Di Carlo to go for him. Prestianni is contracted until 2029 with a €100 million release clause, according to El Crack Deportivo.
River Plate tried to sign him in December, proposing a €800,000 loan and a €4 million option to buy 50 percent of his rights, but Benfica declined to negotiate.
The Argentine side acknowledge that a return to Argentina is unlikely for now.
Separately, River have greater hope of landing Nicolás Otamendi, whose contract with Benfica expires in June. Benfica want to renew, but the captain, with the national team no longer the priority and to be left after the 2026 World Cup, will explore all possibilities.
