Benfica have hardened their stance over Andreas Schjelderup, with 40 million euros no longer enough to start talks.

The winger is protected by a 100 million euro release clause and is enjoying his best spell since joining. Record writes that he underlined that progress at the 2026 World Cup, scoring against England and supplying three assists for Norway.

The board led by Rui Costa now regards the earlier 40 million figure as outdated and expects a notably higher proposal before engaging.

Tottenham have emerged as a leading contender and are considering an offer that could reach 40 million euros, with part of the sum tied to performance targets and mechanisms linked to a future transfer.

That structure, and the base fee, remain well short of Benfica’s expectations. Liverpool and Chelsea are monitoring the situation, and Como are also tracking the Norway international in Italy.

Schjelderup, 21, has yet to respond to a contract extension proposal that would run to 2031, but Benfica remain confident in his potential and see no reason to ease their financial demands.
