Académico de Viseu want Benfica goalkeeper Diogo Ferreira on loan as they strengthen for their top-flight return, but uncertainty surrounds the move.

Record reports that Benfica are not keen to release the 19-year-old, who was third choice last season and started for their B team.

Benfica began pre-season with four goalkeepers, Anatoliy Trubin, Samuel Soares, André Gomes and Ferreira, and the Rui Costa-led board could loan out one due to fierce competition.

It is certain one will not stay. Gomes has returned from a loan at Alverca, while Soares enters his final contract year and would welcome a loan to play regularly.

Nothing is settled and even Trubin could leave if a tempting offer arrives at Luz.

Given that, Benfica prefer to keep Ferreira for now, with a call to be made later.
