José Mourinho has received a late Christmas gift in the shape of Estrela da Amadora’s flying full-back Sidny Lopes Cabral. Benfica have paid a fee in the region of six million euros for his signature.
The 23-year-old Cabral has been a revelation since signing for the Lisbon minnows in the summer, scoring five goals from full-back and putting in countless hugely impressive displays despite Estrela’s instability this season.
Cabral has also broken into the Cape Verde national team and helped the African nation secure their first ever qualification for a World Cup.
Born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Cabral began his career in the country of his birth for Twente, before switching to Sweden where he played for Helsingborgs.
He subsequently tried his luck in Germany where he represented Erfurt and Viktoria Koln, before moving to Portugal ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Half a season in the Primeira Liga was enough for Cabral to earn himself a move to the Estádio da Luz.
