Benfica’s pursuit of Lorenzo Lucca has stalled, with negotiations with Napoli at an impasse. Record writes that the José Mourinho target’s arrival at Estádio da Luz is now in serious doubt this winter.
The main obstacle is Napoli’s 30 million euros price for the Italy international. Benfica regard the figure as excessive, and a loan has been ruled out by the Italian club, who prefer a sale.
Napoli intend to wait for permanent offers from elsewhere. A temporary move may only be discussed late in the window if no buyer reaches their price.
Benfica have turned to other options, notably Clayton. However, Rio Ave’s likely sale of André Luiz could complicate any move, as the Liga Portugal Betclic club may resist losing both key assets at once.
Lucca, valued at 25 million euros, has made 20 appearances for Napoli this season, 14 in Serie A, four in the Champions League, one in the Supercoppa and one in the Coppa Italia. In 570 minutes, he has scored two goals, and his contract runs until June 2028.
