According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica have decided to keep Enzo Barrenechea permanently and intend to activate a €12 million purchase option.
The Rui Costa-led board aims to complete the signing from Aston Villa, who loaned the Argentine at the start of the season. Barrenechea has been a regular starter since arriving, first under Bruno Lage, now dismissed, then under José Mourinho, who has relied on him.
The option is valued at €12 million, to be added to a loan fee of three million euros already paid.
The player is happy at Benfica and is expected to start against Real Madrid. It is considered a matter of time before Benfica sit down to agree remaining details with the Premier League club.
This season Barrenechea has made 31 appearances, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 11 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. He has played 2,440 minutes, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He is valued at €15 million.
