Benfica intend to delay Andreas Schjelderup’s contract renewal until there is clarity over his future beyond this season, according to Record.

Interest from several clubs is complicating discussions, and the pause is linked to the board, led by Rui Costa, expecting a significant fee from a potential sale.

The club have opened exploratory talks with the 21-year-old and his agency ROOF, but he has yet to receive any formal offer. His release clause is set at €100 million.

Schjelderup was close to leaving in January, yet he has since revived his standing. He is now considered one of José Mourinho’s most influential players and is attracting suitors across Europe, beyond Barcelona.

This season he has made 37 appearances for Benfica, 22 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga. Across 2,104 minutes he has produced seven goals and five assists. He is valued at €20 million.
