Dagblad van het Noorden reports that Benfica have contacted Groningen over captain Stije Resink, but the Eredivisie club are not entertaining offers this window.

The Lisbon side, led by president Rui Costa, made the first move to open talks for the 22-year-old midfielder. Groningen signalled they are not looking to sell for now.

Benfica have not backed off. The player is a prime target for José Mourinho, and the club are willing to pay 7 million euros plus performance-related add-ons.

Even so, closing a deal remains difficult for Rui Costa. The offer exceeds Resink’s 6 million euros summer release clause, but Groningen are steadfast over a January exit. Resink has been kept informed and has commented again on Benfica’s interest.

This season Resink has made 21 appearances for Groningen, 20 in the Eredivisie and one in the cup, totalling 1,857 minutes. He has scored four goals and provided five assists. He is valued at 7 million euros.
