Benfica ‘to offer’ Mourinho new contract as Rui Costa steps up bid

Benfica plan to table a new deal for José Mourinho, with Rui Costa intent on keeping the 63-year-old despite claims he has already agreed terms with Real Madrid.

Record writes on Wednesday, 13 May, that the paperwork has already reached Mourinho and his agent Jorge Mendes, and that Costa is now awaiting a response.

After the Braga game, Mourinho said he will only decide his future at the end of the season, when a 10-day window in his Benfica contract begins.

The renewal had been in the works for weeks, and the draw with Braga, which left Benfica third, has not taken the offer off the table.

For now, his future is unresolved, with Benfica keen to keep him and a Real Madrid return gathering momentum. As with Nicolás Otamendi, the call rests with Mourinho.
