Benfica to play Académico de Viseu opener behind closed doors after APCVD ruling | OneFootball

Benfica’s Liga Portugal opener against Académico de Viseu will be played behind closed doors after a ruling by the APCVD, linked to pyrotechnics used by their supporters in five games in 2022/23.

Correio da Manhã reports that the sanction could cost the club about 1.5 million euros in lost gate receipts.

Red Pass holders will be reimbursed the value of the match, credited to their virtual wallet for future use. Further details will follow in the coming days.

In 2024/25, Red Pass sales generated 13.6 million euros, an average of about 485,000 per home game. Matchday ticketing and other gate income added roughly 389,000 per match.

Boxes and executive seats brought in 16.6 million euros, more than 590,000 per game. If those premium holders are also compensated, the overall hit could reach around 1.47 million euros, and may be higher after recent ticket price rises.
