Benfica are said to be preparing a contract for Marco Silva as a contingency should José Mourinho depart, with Real Madrid a possible destination, A Bola reports. Mourinho has also indicated that remaining at the Estádio da Luz could still happen.

The report says a contract is ready to present to Marco Silva. It is understood to be for two or three years, either signed outright or via an extension, and initial steps have already been taken, although everything depends on Mourinho’s choice.

There are no concrete details, yet talks are described as taking place on firm footing, which could be a positive sign for Benfica.

After spells with Estoril and Sporting, Marco Silva built a reputation in England with Wolves and Fulham, becoming one of the most respected coaches there.

In an interview with DAZN in recent days, he discussed his future while nearing the end of his contract with the London club. He said he has an offer to renew, but he is not closing the door on opportunities outside England.
