Benfica have opened talks with Bayern Munich over João Palhinha, a priority target for Marco Silva’s squad. The club intend to lodge a formal offer.

According to Maisfutebol, Benfica president Rui Costa and Bayern counterpart Herbert Hainer have discussed a one-year loan with a mandatory purchase clause set slightly above €15 million.

Two weeks ago, Rui Costa said supporters already knew the terms Palhinha has at Bayern and what the Germans are asking.

With less than a month of the window remaining, Benfica want to secure the 31-year-old Portugal international, but accept the process may demand patience.

Bayern have repeatedly indicated Palhinha is not in their plans for 2026/27, and that they favour a permanent sale over a loan.

The midfielder’s salary could also complicate negotiations.
