Benfica are pushing to land Lorenzo Lucca despite obstacles in negotiations, with the Italian striker seen as fitting José Mourinho’s brief for a new centre-forward.
According to A Bola, Benfica have held substantive talks with Napoli as they look to advance a deal, though there is competition from clubs such as Nottingham Forest.
Benfica’s plan centres on a loan for the 25-year-old. Napoli, coached by Antonio Conte, are instead seeking a sale to create financial room in line with UEFA regulations.
Even so, the Italian club are not ruling out a loan until the end of this season, but would want a mandatory purchase clause to be triggered in summer 2026.
Lucca, valued at 25 million euros, has made 20 appearances for Napoli this season, 14 in Serie A, four in the Champions League, one in the Supercoppa and one in the Coppa Italia. Across 570 minutes he has scored two goals, and his contract runs to June 2028.
