Benfica were close to signing Moussa Camará from Midtjylland, but bureaucratic issues scuppered the move.

Africafoot reports that the defender said he had been invited to travel to Lisbon and represent Benfica, only for visa problems to prevent it. He later underwent a trial at Midtjylland, Mafra’s partner club, before arriving in Portugal.

Now at Mafra, the 21-year-old Malian centre-back is asserting himself in the Liga 3 promotion phase. He scored the decisive goal in the win over Varzim in the first match of this stage, securing 3 points and cementing his starting role under Orest Shala.

His rise has been underpinned by consistent displays and smooth integration. The victory boosted confidence as Mafra chase promotion to the professional leagues, a target set since the start of the season. His clear objective remains to reach a top club and, one day, play in the Champions League.

After a first stint in 2024/25 split between the under-23s and senior side, Mafra exercised an option to buy from Onze Créateurs de Niaréla for a fee believed to be below 50 thousand euros, and he signed a four-year deal. This season he has played 17 official matches, 16 in Liga 3 and one in the Taça de Portugal, totalling 1,560 minutes and one goal.
