Jaden Umeh has sustained a serious injury to his right thigh and should be sidelined for at least three months. According to Glorioso 1904, the Benfica winger was hurt during a friendly against Flamengo.

The incident occurred in the first half after a heavy challenge by Emerson Royal. Umeh initially continued, then was withdrawn for Gianluca Prestianni at the hydration break.

There was early hope the problem was minor. A further medical assessment on Sunday confirmed a more complicated picture, leaving Marco Silva without one of this pre-season’s bright surprises.

Despite the setback, the coaching staff have continued to praise Umeh. After spending most of last season with the junior side, he grasped his chances in the build-up to 2026/27, impressing Silva in training and in friendlies.

He started against Flamengo, hinting he could earn a bigger role in the first team over the season. The injury halts that momentum, which had grown as several internationals were absent.
