Benfica forward Gianluca Prestianni has been left out of Argentina’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup, despite being on the 55-man provisional list. According to Glorioso 1904, Lionel Scaloni has kept faith with the core that won the title in Qatar, and Nicolás Otamendi is included.
The omission comes after Prestianni failed to survive the final cuts. In midfield, the world champions retain their established nucleus, including Enzo Fernández, formerly of Benfica.
There is room for younger faces, with Valentín Barco and Nico Paz continuing to gain opportunities under Scaloni. In attack, Lionel Messi is joined by Lautaro Martínez and Julián Álvarez, who are expected to shoulder much of the scoring burden.
Argentina go into the tournament among the favourites to lift the trophy again, seeking to defend the crown secured in 2022. That final against France finished 4-2 on penalties.
Had Prestianni been selected, he was already set to miss the first two matches, against Algeria and Austria, because of a suspension imposed by UEFA and later extended by FIFA.
